Turnium and Quantum Internet Solutions Support the Ukrainian Safe Haven Project on Vancouver Island

The Ukrainian Safe Haven Project on Vancouver Island is set to provide refuge for up to 100 Ukrainians forced to flee from the ongoing conflict. The combined donations from Quantum and Turnium will ensure those staying at the Safe Haven will benefit from the comprehensive technology package required to keep them connected with their loved ones.

May 17, 2022, Vancouver, Canada – Turnium Technology Group Inc. (TTGI) and Quantum Internet Solutions are pleased to announce their joint support of the Ukrainian Safe Haven Project. Situated at the former Grouse Nest Resort in Sooke, BC, the Ukrainian Safe Haven is set to provide refuge for up to 100 Ukrainians forced to flee from the ongoing conflict in Donbas, Kharkiv, Mariupol, and other affected cities within the country.

Turnium and Quantum are donating a complete technology package to the nonprofit that will keep residents of the Ukrainian Safe Haven connected to vital news with internet, video, and voice calling services. Quantum is donating all hardware, installation, and 24/7 support while Turnium is donating the company’s software-defined wide area networking (SD-WAN) technology.

“I am very pleased to provide community support on a project that means so much to me while helping our Ukrainian brothers and sisters who have escaped the atrocities of their war-torn country stay up to date with the daily news and events about friends and family,” said Nathan Demchuk, CTO of Quantum Internet Solutions.

The combined donations from Quantum and Turnium will ensure those staying at the Safe Haven will receive fast and reliable internet service to keep them connected to critical information and their loved ones.

“This is an important donation and effort by the Ukrainian Safe Haven,” said Johan Arnet, CEO of Turnium. “Providing our SD-WAN technology through Quantum, our partner, ensures this site will have the bandwidth, uptime, and quality of service that is required to keep people staying at the Safe Haven in touch with their families, friends, and events in Ukraine.”

Owned by Brian and Sharon Holowaychuk, the Grouse Nest Resort was originally intended to become a community-oriented facility for charity events, festivals, and art. That all changed following the ongoing destruction in Ukraine. Now repurposed for the benefit of a nonprofit organization started by the Holowaychuk’s called the Ukrainian Safe Haven, the resort is being donated as a refuge to Ukrainians fleeing the conflict.

Keeping Ukraine Connected: Quantum & Turnium partner to supply news and internet connectivity solutions to BC’s Ukrainian Safe Haven shelter

Quantum Internet Solutions and Turnium Technology Inc keeping Ukraine connected

“Dad, We Have to Do Something”

A simple statement like this from Nathan Demchuk’s 19-year-old son kicked off Quantum Internet Solutions’ support for the Ukrainian Safe Haven project.

Located at the former Grouse Nest Resort in Sooke, BC, the Ukrainian Safe Haven will be a refuge for up to 100 Ukrainians from Donbas, Kharkiv, Mariupol, and other cities on the front lines of the conflict.

Brian and Sharon Holowaychuk purchased the Grouse Nest Resort in 2021, intending to renovate the resort to its original 1900s style to host charity events, festivals, and art. With Ukraine now locked in war, the resort has been repurposed as a non-profit organization called the Ukrainian Safe Haven. Brian and Sharon are donating the resort space, while local businesses, including Quantum Internet Solutions owned by Nathan Demchuk and Donna Osland, are donating time, expertise, and materials to turn the resort into a real safe haven.

Both of Ukrainian descent, Nathan Demchuk and Brian Holowaychuk have been friends for decades. As the owner of Edmonton’s Axe Music, Brian provided Nathan with audio equipment for his DJ business. Nathan’s grandfather immigrated to Canada from Odessa in 1935 and lived 40 kilometers outside of Stony Lake, Alberta. Nathan still has family in Ukraine, and sadly his cousin was killed during the defense of Mariupol.

At the Ukrainian Safe Haven, the main building will house approximately 30 families with other buildings being upgraded and portables or trailers brought on-site to house the remaining people, as they arrive. The first Ukrainian refugees will arrive around May 9th.

Quantum Internet Solutions is donating a complete technology package to the Ukrainian Safe Haven. Residents will be given free IP TV to get Ukrainian news in real-time as well as internet access, onsite WIFI, and voice calling. Quantum is contributing all hardware, installation, and 24×7 support. Turnium Technology Group, Inc., is donating Turnium’s software-defined wide area networking technology (SD-WAN). Turnium’s technology allows Quantum to deliver faster internet speeds and more reliable service to the Ukrainian Safe Haven.

Founded by Nathan Demchuk and Donna Osland, Quantum Internet Solutions started in Leduc, Alberta, in 2018. Quantum opened its Nanaimo office in 2020, leaving their eldest son to run Quantum Leduc. In both BC and Alberta, Quantum focuses on delivering rural connectivity and telecommunications to underserved communities, providing services for businesses up to 1,000 mbps and for residential users up to 1,000 mbps, more than enough to enable the entire family to use the internet at the same time for school, entertainment, and business. Quantum also provides Internet of Things (IoT) services to customers, in one instance, enabling a farm to automate its entire milking and quality management process. Quantum also provides secure access solutions, including biometric, card-based, and RFID options to secure facilities management systems.

Top 5 Reasons to Switch to VoIP

Why should you switch to a Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) phone system? There are a number of reasons why switching to VoIP is a great choice for your business communication system. Here are some of the top reasons to switch:

  • Less Expensive Phone Service. Low monthly per-user rates and no contract options.
  • Affordable Long Distance and International Calling. Get low per-minute calling, even for international calls.
  • Free Calling Features. All providers offer included calling features with their plans.
  • Convenience. A majority of VoIP providers offer plug-and-play install and are easy to use.
  • Mobility. Use call forwarding, find me/follow me, or a mobile app to stay connected.

1. Less Expensive Phone Service

By dropping traditional phone service and switching to VoIP, consumers typically save a significant amount of money on their monthly phone service. According to a recent survey by Consumer Reports, people who have purchased a VoIP service are reportedly saving around $50 each month on their phone bill.

2. Affordable Long Distance and International Calling

A majority of VoIP providers offer either international calling plans or low per-minute international rates. VoIP service providers like ITP offer a Global Plan, which comes with unlimited local and long-distance calls to the United States and Canada, in addition to calling to 70 countries, for a low monthly rate of $24.99. Jive, on the other hand, offers a select number of countries that you can call for only $0.03/min. Furthermore, most VoIP providers also offer free on-network calling, making long distance and international calling even cheaper.

3. Free Calling Features

VoIP users enjoy a variety of free calling features, which would normally incur an extra change with a traditional phone service. Free features can include voicemail , caller ID , conference calling , call waiting , call forwarding and many others. VoIP users can have their voicemail messages e-mailed to them for easy playback and referencing; with some providers, users can click to call contacts directly from Outlook. Furthermore, consumers can obtain extra numbers (also known as virtual numbers) so out-of-town friends and family members can dial a local number to reach the VoIP user easily and affordably. If you place long distance calls frequently, obtaining a virtual number can help you save big on your monthly phone bill.

4. Convenience

What many VoIP users enjoy most about their phone service is the convenience. With VoIP, people can make and receive phone calls in much the same way they did with traditional phone service, making the transition to a VoIP phone service entirely seamless. Even better, with a VoIP phone service consumers can track their call activity, manage voicemail, view billing information, and change account information online and at their convenience via their admin portal . Additionally, most VoIP providers offer their customers numerous ways to contact them, ensuring that you will always have support for your phone system.

5. Mobility

Most VoIP providers allow users to take their VoIP service with them anywhere in the world. With high-speed Internet and a VoIP phone adapter, callers can place and accept VoIP calls from any location, at any time, for no additional charge. This feature is often referred to as “Work from Anywhere”. In addition, certain providers offer smartphone apps for both iOS and Android, allowing their consumers to take full advantage of their VoIP features on the go.
